REWIND: Mansun - 'Moronica'

More wonderful music from 1996 as RW/FF takes you aboard a musical TARDIS on a journey through musical history. If you weren't around or were too young to remember the mid 90s,it's a lesson of enlightenment. If you (like me) were lucky enough to experience it all first time around, then these posts make a fine nostalgic blast from the blast.

Among all the Britpop-era guitar bands of the mid 90's, Chester-based four piece Mansun stood out like a sore thumb. It's now been over two decades since the band released their raucous 'EP Two', which features the much-loved lead track 'Take It Easy Chicken', and this ace B side, which could have easily been an A side. Known amongst fans for being something of a lyrical genius, frontman Paul Draper stays true to form with lines like “you've slayed 10 dragons before you've had your tea”. 'Two EP' reached number 32 in the UK singles charts. This song can also be found on the deluxe reissue of the group's classic 1997 debut album 'Attack Of The Grey Lantern'.

It's incredible that a band who split up over a decade ago can still have such a fanbase so loyal that a Mansun fan convention held in Chester two years back proved to be a huge success. Next year sees another fan convention planned to coincide with the 20th anniversary of 'Attack Of The Grey Lantern', which hit number 1, even knocking Blur off the top spot. More info about the convention will be revealed soon, and to keep updated you should follow @MansunCon on Twitter. Meanwhile, frontman Paul Draper recently returned from a long silence with his superb debut release 'EP One', which went to number 1 in the vinyl singles chart. 'EP Two' will be following soon, with Draper's long-awaited solo album 'Spooky Action' due for release sometime in 2017.
